Table 7 Classification of coronary artery aneurysms in the acute phase of Kawasaki disease and severity classification

From: Kawasaki disease: guidelines of the Italian Society of Pediatrics, part I - definition, epidemiology, etiopathogenesis, clinical expression and management of the acute phase

Dilation: diameter ≥ 2.5 SD

Small aneurysm:

localized dilation showing an inner diameter ≤ 4 mm (in children ≥5 years: the internal diameter of a segment < 1.5 times compared to an adjacent segment)

Z-Score ≥ 2.5 to < 5

Medium aneurysm:

aneurysm showing an inner diameter > 4 mm and < 8 mm(in children ≥5 years: the internal diameter of a segment 1.5~ 4 times compared to an adjacent segment)

z-score ≥ 5 to < 10

Giant aneurysm:

aneurysm showing an internal diameter ≥ 8 mm(in children ≥5 years: the internal diameter of a segment > 4 times compared to an adjacent segment)

z-score ≥ 10
